Kindle vs Real Books
Posted by shannabanana1

VS

I mentioned in our last regular podcast about how I’m not really sure about my Kindle reader.  I like the convenience factor of it and that books are cheaper for it, also there are many free book choices.  I am not sure that I enjoy it as much as diving into an actual book.    I know you all saying you can dive into the kindle too, Shannon.  Don’t you feel like there is something missing? The thrill of opening a book, the smell of walking into a  bookstore and sitting and getting absorbed in the story, turning the pages and wonder what comes next.  So Kindle and non Kindle users, tell me your opinions, let me have it, I can take it.  What do you like about the Kindle and how can I enjoy it more.

Extra MLL podcast episode – An Interview with Bree Despain April 20th 2010

The Divine Ms. Bree Despain was so GRACious to speak with us last night for a bit. We learned so much about her and her story. We asked questions, she answered. We even got her to spill the beans about The Lost Saint, not really but we did talk a little about it.  Things get a little interesting toward the end so be sure to listen to see what team, besides Team Daniel, Ms. Bree is on.

According to wikipedia it’s national turn off TV week.

Quoted from Wikipedia

TV Turnoff Week was launched by Adbusters magazine and other organizations in 1994 and championed by TV-Free America, which is now called Center for SCREEN-TIME Awareness (CSTA). CSTA is an organization that encourages all people to use electronic screened media responsibly and then have more time for a healthier life and more community participation. It is a grassroots alliance of many different organisations.

What does that mean for us? Grab a book, kindle, ipod or audiobook device and READ!!!
Try out our book of the month, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater.

Have fun this week!

Forbes Fictional 15…
Posted by shannabanana1

I think this is really kind of silly and I needed a post today so what the heck.  Who knew that Carlisle Cullen would be the Richest Fictional Character in the world.  Here is Forbes synopsis:

Net Worth: $34.1 billion
Source: Compound Interest, Long-term investments
More about Carlisle Cullen

Immortal vampire and small-town doctor has quietly amassed a fortune over the centuries. In 1670 received generous handout from Italian friends; put savings in bank, reaped billions in compound interest. Made shrewd long-term investments in steel, gold, oil, thanks to prescience of daughter turned financial advisor Alice; saw recessions coming, invested early in Wal-Mart. Earned doctor’s salary for 340 years without paying for groceries, health care expenses. Avoids sunshine and public displays of wealth but owns several valuable properties, including yacht, private island, collection of Renaissance art. New member. (For more on Carlisle Cullen, see “Blood Money.”)

Featured in the Twilight books and films.

MLL Episode # – The Dark Divine Thursday April 15th 2010

It’s a great story of a preacher’s daughter who loves a Werewolf. Listen in as Kim and Shannon discuss their thoughts on Grace, Daniel, Jude, April and all the other characters. They also talk a little about the next book we’re reading. Listen very carefully because they have a little surprise for us!

PS Sorry for the bad sound quality through the first half. The second half is much better PROMISE.

Catch ya in the lounge...

Friday, April 16th, 2010

All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you’re a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I’ve tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I’ve made my living as one of these since I was 22).

I now live an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with my charmingly straight-laced husband, two small kids, two neurotic dogs, one criminally insane cat, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

I’m an avid reader, an award-winning colored pencil artist, and play several musical instruments, including the Celtic harp, the piano, and the bagpipes. I also make great cocktail party conversation.
